As you may have seen on Facebook, this year I celebrated my 27th birthday in true money fashion:

Yes. My theme party was “Mustache & Cleavage.” (And yes, I know mustache is mispelled). Aside, as with any theme party my costume was not without.

The day started like every other…cocktails and costume prep at our place. The night before all of the girls had stayed over for a sleepover party filled with wine, gossip and dance party 2 on the wii. The spend-the-night made getting ready for the day very easy…everyone was there to ensure we had enough cleavage and plenty of mustaches. I would offer to show photos, however on our way from the apartment to O’Reily’s in North Beach, my camera was left in the cab. (Insert sad face here.)

The only other photo I have from the day is this, which clearly took place at the end of the afternoon.

So sue me…I needed a nap…

From O’Reily’s to Rogue our afternoon was filled with many cocktails, lots of stories, several new friends (young and very old) and tons of laughter. I personally enjoyed the Porche salespeople hitting on every female in sight, the homegrown mustaches from the likes of Danny and Garrett and the ridiculousness of everyone’s overall “look” for the day.

Around 5pm (I think) we finished our afternoon in the sun and decided it was time for dinner…I had sliders on the mind, so we headed to Marengo. I’m not exactly sure how things went so quickly from hot to not so hawt, but the next thing I knew Lauren and I were sans sliders and rolling around the patio floor.

Sean insisted we go home at that point (shocker), but I insisted on Chinese. After he returned me safety to our apartment, he headed back out with our friends. Once the coast was clear I hopped in a cab, picked up Mary (who was for whatever reason was at La Barca) and headed to Dragon Well for a feast. Around 7pm I called it a night.

All in all the day was a amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday with better friends and family.

(Seriously, I’m so friggin blessed, it’s ridiculous.)

In light of my official launch into my late twenties this Friday, aka my 27th birthday, Mary put together a fantastic list of recommendations on how to celebrate in true San Francisco style.

PS Hope to see you this Saturday at the Handlebars and Headlights Polk Street Pub Crawl in celebration of my 27th year.

Now back to Mary’s game plan…

Chinatown Pub-crawl
The only way I can stand going to Chinatown is if I’m a little tipsy and it’s dark outside. With that said, going on pub-crawls in Chinatown is one of the weirdest, most entertaining, and downright hilarious experiences. They pour surprisingly strong cocktails, I’m always convinced the Chinese mafia is lingering, and the bars’ decor usually consists mainly of Maneki Neko (you know, those plastic cats with the moving arm). Here are some suggestions for your crawl:

Mr. Bing’s

Bow Bow Cocktail Lounge

Buddha Lounge

Li Po Cocktail Lounge

Red’s Place

Forbes Island
If you’re looking for a memorable dinner experience, this is the place. Loacted within the seawall near Pier 39, Forbes Island is heaven on earth. Mr. Forbes converted his houseboat into a floating bar and restaurant paradise, complete with beach patios outside. The decor is over the top nautical so be sure to wear the appropriate attire. There are great views of Alcatraz, Coit Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge, and of course, San Francisco sea lions. To get to Forbes Island, you go to their inconspicuous gate literally to the left of Pier 39′s entrance. A small motorized boat will carry you out to the island. The food is good, a little pricey as can be expected for a restaurant in the wharf. But, unlike many other restaurants in the wharf, Forbes Island never seems to be congested with tourists. I’ve never had a problem making a reservations and have even gone there without. It’s also fun to just go for drinks and appetizers at the bar if you want to give it a try without committing to dinner.

House of Air
What sounds more fun than making a bunch of your friends get together and go jump around in a room that is wall to wall trampolines? Make sure you go on a Saturday or Sunday morning when a few select people will be massively hungover…pure entertainment.

Johnny Foley’s Irish House
Fun Irish bar where the bartenders have thick brogues and they pour a good Guinness. They usually have really fun live music but try and go on a night when they are doing dueling pianos. The food is pretty good…bangers and mash and mac and cheese, yum! It can get really crowded on weekends so beware.

Tres Agaves
This is a fun, delicious Mexican restaurant near the ballpark in San Francisco. What brought me here was my love for Tequila. Tres Agaves offers an array of group dining and drinking options. I’ve done one of their margarita making classes which they do for larger parties throughout the course of dinner. Everyone sat socializing, munching on appetizers, while the restaurant’s tequila expert taught us all about Tequila and provided us with all the necessary ingredients for the perfect margarita. We were able to try all different types of tequilas and experiment making our own margaritas. By the time our meals came, I think we were all a lot smarter but also quite a bit intoxicated. The class was definitely worth it’s cost!

Let’s be honest, I’m no stranger to the occasional rolling blackout, but the past couple of weeks my friends and I have experienced a number of power outages… I recall a couple years back when a co-worker of mine warned me that in the coming five years I wouldn’t be able to “handle my liquor” as I had throughout college. She referred to memory loss and all day hangovers as though these two were inevitable as time went on. I laughed when she said this, and yet I find my recent Sundays filled with cuddling, chinese delivery and eight hour movie marathons. Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

As you know the energy in the city has been amazing thanks to the Giants World Series win. And in these past few weeks my friends and I have rode the high, celebrating both Jen and Blaire’s birthdays to name a few. Unfortunately the photos from Jen’s birthday were mysteriously deleted. (Culprit…I know who you are.) However, for Blaire’s birthday I have pictures-a-plenty, some of which I will share others will remain in the vault!

Below is a list of events, excluding the inconsequential details and names. (You know who you are and what you did.) The result of the recent rolling blackouts are…

Extreme Dancing
This has occurred several occasions over the past couple weeks, including several trips to Maggie McGarry’s and most recently indoor the trolley ride for Blaire’s bday. Check out Garret’s face!

Making New Friends
Like when we met Rhonda, our bartender on the trolley. She too experienced dating a man who turned out to be married. What a wealth of knowledge she was.

Threesomes, One Night Stands & Girl on Girl Makeouts
Yes. You read me right. Threesomes and several one night stands. I promised to leave out the details in order to protect identities, but this really did happen. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, highschool-esque girl on girl makeout sessions too. Class. Class. Class.

Mel’s Feasts
Late night dining at Mel’s is nothing new for this crowd, but until recently we had long forgotten the patty melts, milkshakes and “Sweet Caroline” sing-a-longs. Thanks to Sean for treating us on Saturday. I think I really appreciated it.

And finally….Sunday Hangovers
The aforementioned Sunday hangovers have been nothing but epic as of late. Typically the all day resting period takes place in either my bedroom or Jen’s upstairs. This requires minimal movement, no change of clothes and most definitely no shower. Throughout the course of the day we have approximately 5-1o participants and order 1-2 take out meals. My personal favorite being the “pizza + burger combo” at Picolo’s that we ordered around 11am. (See receipt below.)

All in all, the past couple of weeks have reminded me that we’re getting older…and it’s not just because we celebrated a birthday or two…but that we still know how to have a good time!

For my mom’s special day this year she, along with the rest of my family and a couple friends, joined us for a trip to Tiburon for brunch at Sam’s. Despite a very gloomy forecast, the weather held up for our ferry ride to and from Tiburon.

How adorable are my parents?! I mean really?!

The whole of us waiting in line to board the ferry back to the city…

On our ride back, I had enjoyed one too many irish coffees and gin fizzys…as a result, when I popped into the ferry restroom for a quick potty break, I was accidentally rocked to sleep sitting on the toilet. About 20 minutes later I woke up with no idea where the heck I was…class class class!

To celebrate my cousin and uncle’s birthdays we gathered in the East Bay for some good old fashioned family fun. Outside of San Francisco and Folsom, the East Bay is my third home. I love the hot weather, the short distance between Filbert Street and Diablo Road and of course, the aunts, uncles and cousins who are there for my entertainment and company.

Aren’t we precious?!

Happy Belated Birthday Stinks!

The trolley that could get me drunk that is. It’s was Kellan’s 26th birthday and one of the warmest days in the city since I’ve lived here. We decided to celebrate her special day in true San Francisco fashion: Trolley Crawl!

Saturday morning started out with brunch at Lee Anne’s. (Congrats to her on grad school BTW!!) Anyway…after a couple cheesy scones and birthday cupcakes, we sang Kellan a very special birthday song: Mmmm…Kellan. That looks like a delicious “ICE-Y” cake!

So once satiated by our delicious homemade brunch, we popped downstairs to start on our merry trolley way…

Kellan had planned an entire day of activities, traveling from Bar A to Bar B, including a special stop on the Marin side of the Golden Gate for a quick photo op and some champagne…So we headed down the road and landed ourselves at the quintessential tourist view point.

Once we gobbled down our champagne, thoroughly embarrassing ourselves in public, we hopped back on our trolley to head to our first drunken hot spot.

SIDE NOTE: If you didn’t already know this about me, consider yourself informed. I HATE being hot. I don’t like the sticky feeling of humidity. I don’t like standing still in the heat perspiring like crazy. And I don’t like being hot while I’m drunk.

So as we turn the roundabout to merge onto the freeway we realize our trolley seems to be slowing down…slower and slower…I’m not sure if the driver just ran out of gas or is the trolley just stopped working. But there we were…the side of the Golden Gate Bridge…in a trolley…in the heat…This is me not happy.

Of course to keep us distracted we did have minis and friends…

So after about 2 hours we had a separate trolley come pick us up…Our plan was to hit up three different bars in three different neighborhoods (names for the most part I don’t remember.) However, to make a VERY long story short, every bar turned us down with the exception of one.

I don’t know what the name of this dive was, but it was creepy…Just a quick glimpse…

Clearly at this point we were a bit schnockered, which led to some great decisions like…

A. Inviting strangers on the trolley:

B. Pole dancing through the streets:

C. Icing (Please note Kellan’s face in the background. Classic):

And finally D. Going to Paxti’s…To sum up our experience. We ordered several pizzas, bottles of wine and a TON of water. As we exited the building (thankfully without being escorted out) the manager came up and laughed about how he’s starting to recognize us. I do not take this as good news. Here’s why…

Just another Saturday Faturday. I heart you San Francisco.

You know you only turn 26 once, so you might as well celebrate. With Mary officially closer to 30 than 20, we had much reason to enjoy the weekend!

After a Wednesday evening of shenanigans, including sushi at Umami, Jameson at Notte, Mojitos at East Side West, Tequila at KTs and of course wine at Balboa, we closed out the night with a walk home to drop off the birthday girl (literally drop).

Along the way we ended up giving Mary a birthday gift should wouldn’t soon forget…Somehow (and details are blurry) Mary tripped over Jen and landed face first on the sidewalk in front of her apartment. As Jen rolled her over, I kept yelling “Oh my gawd! Does she have all her teeth?!” Thanks to the heavens above Mary did have all her teeth, but walked away with a couple scratches and a pretty awesome fat lip. The next morning around 5am the following text exchange occured:

Mary: I had to call in b/c I have a FAT lip. I hate u. I’m hungover and have an oozing fat lip. It’s 5:30am ps. I hate u…but love u.
Me: Dude I know. You fell on your face last night. U and Jen tripped and u went face first to the ground.
Mary: Called in (to work) ’fat lip’…literally. U should c it I can’t believe I’m not missing a tooth….I hate u…I mean really? I’m 26 and falling…any chance you have my wallet?

So classic. For the record…more than the amount of liquor she drank, no offense Mary, but YOU ARE SUCH A CLUTZ!

Aside, Thursday night we packed the car and headed up with the girls to Tahoe for a birthday weekend getaway. On Friday, Mary, Brooks and Kel headed up to the slopes, while Stina, Lola and I stayed back at the house…

After a very stressful day (haha…totally not) we headed to the backyard (aka the national park) and popped into the hot tub for some wine and gossip!

That night we had a mini birthday party for Mary, complete with her favorite…ice cream sundaes!

Saturday we decided to take things easy so we headed up to the Lahontan spa for yet another day of hot tubbing, margaritas and girl chat. So much to do, so little time. That night we had reservations at my most favorite Tahoe restaurant, Garwoods! The food is delicious, but the cocktails are to die for! The Wet Woody is AMAZING (note the green straws)!

Of course the tricky thing about the Wet Woodys, just like with any woody, they sneak up on you! We got home and played a couple rounds of “I’ve Never,” learning things about each other we would have never guessed! (Well maybe you could have guessed, in fact with our friends, you could probably just have assumed.)

Aside, the night went on, Bel (Kellan’s alter ego) joined in on the fun…Brooks and I fancied fur…Mary got a 1000yrd stare…so on and so on…

Sunday we got up early (I was shocked too), cleaned up the house (well, okay, I slept in) and we stopped at Red Robin (my former employer and home of the smiling burger). Got back to the city by two and made a delicious family dinner!

Another great weekend…Happy Birthday Mary! Thanks for being born so we could have a fantastic weekend celebration! Looking forward to next year!!

(PS How good do I look in fur? I was totally born in the wrong era.)
